Ram Gopal Varma: Bombay Velvet Is Anurags Aag
Here's the latest update from the world of Bollywood. We bet you wouldn't want to miss this. Read on for details... The maverick filmmaker takes the first opportunity to slam his protege's film
Ram Gopal Varma had become the butt of many jokes when his Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag (his take on the classic Sholay) was a disaster. Looks like he hasn’t forgotten the embarrassment.
The filmmaker has seized the first opportunity he got to deride Anurag Kashyaps Bombay Velvet. The Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar starrer has a lot of money riding on it and the opening collections have been poor. More importantly, the film hasnt gone down well with most critics.
And Ramu seems to be taking great pleasure in Anurags current plight. He took to Twitter to run down the film and even compared it to his Aag.
For those whove come in late, the Anurag-Ramu story goes a long way back. Anurag was the writer of Ramus underworld drama Satya and whodunit Kaun?. However, the two stopped working with each other and the Dev.D director even passed a snide remark about him on Koffee With Karan.
During Anurags rapid fire round, Karan had asked him: “Ram Gopal Varma is?”, to which Anurag had replied Rampal Gopal Varma was, not is.
The Rangeela director has an equally bad equation with Karan too. A Twitter war had erupted between the two when Ramu had made fun of My Name Is Khan. The filmmaker had tweeted: I want to remake Raavan and I want to request Mani (Ratnam) to remake Aag. I got a better idea, I will make My Name Is Raavan and Mani should make Raavan Ki Kurbaan.
Karan had shot back: You have an amazing sense of humour, Ramu. Never shows up in your films though.
Even when Karans Student Of The Year had released, Ramu had passed a snide remark. He had tweeted: If someone takes off from Karan Johars Student Of The Year and makes Teacher of the Year, it will become the Disaster of the Year.
Once again, Karan had a repartee. He wrote: Disaster of the Year is your territory Ramu (RGV)no one can ever replace the comfortable place you have made for yourself there.
We wonder what Anurag and Karan have to say about Ramu's tweets. But we don't think that they'll react so soon.
